Becoming a Great Leader – Prof. Stephen Adei

The former rector of GIMPA, Prof. Stephen Adei has expressed that, the majority of people when rightly trained and motivated can rise up to be good leaders. He said everybody has a potential leader in him/her. Speaking on Step Up Business Forum, Prof. Adei stated that some people have so much potential to lead. “They are always ready to take the initiative to lead and ask the right questions because they want to learn. They normally want to go the extra mile” he added.

Prof Adei lamented that sometimes there is a challenge when selecting a leader, he said this is because some good managers do not translate into good leaders because, by nature, the good manager tends to be the custodians of the status quo.

He added that being an effective leader is about causing a paradigm shift therefore, some professions predispose some people from becoming good leaders hence why a lot of organizations do not make it.

Prof Adei voiced that, a god manager may not be a good leader therefore, it is better to look for people with leadership potential and give them managerial skills to be able to perform.
