Extraordinary Leadership – The Perspective of Andrew Takyi-Appiah I (Co-Founder & Managing Director of Zeepay)

In my view, extraordinary leadership is being able to make the right decisions with a good balance in time and often with limited or scarce resources be it people or financial. An extraordinary leader is one who is firm in delivery and yet friendly and able to send the message home to get people to work. Extraordinary leadership requires you to follow through with what you started and constantly engaging people to ensure that there is clarity of purpose and understanding of the expectation. Extraordinary leadership requires a focus on culture, feedback and consistently looking to develop your team

Leadership is about the ability to work with people and everyone in all circumstances. Leadership is about winning but winning is not a competition. Winning is about identifying one’s talent and leveraging their talents to yield results for the ultimate gain of the business. For example, the fact that a man is eager and has a lot of energy doesn’t make him a risk. What a good leader does is to place such a character in the right role that requires the use of that energy to succeed and immediate results would be achieved.

Leadership is about carrying people along and yet being a benevolent dictator when required. Leadership is about being able to see the big picture and making decisions that impact on long term. In such cases, leadership makes decisions that subordinates do not understand nor necessarily support, but in prosperity, the decision is seen to safeguard the business.
