Meet Professor Stephen Adei, Former Rector of GIMPA

Prof. Stephen Adei is a Ghanaian educationist, writer, economist, and motivational speaker. He was a former Director-General and Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. He is currently the chairperson of the National Development Planning Commission under the Nana Akufo-Addo government. He also serves as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

He was born on 14th December 1948 in the village of Hwiremoase in Adansi, Ashanti, Ghana to Kwaku Adei and Abena Pomaa (aka Bedito). Adei attended primary school in the village’s Methodist Primary school and nearby United Middle School in Brofuyedru.

Prof. Adei studied privately to gain London University Ordinary and Advanced Level General Certificates in Education (High School equivalent qualifications) in three and a half years. He proceeded to the University of Ghana in October 1968 where he read Economics, Sociology, and Geography obtaining honors in all three first-year subjects before going on to do a BSc Honours program in Economics. Prof. Adei then went to Strathclyde for his Masters in Development Economics. He also holds a Ph.D. in International Economics at the University of Sydney.

Prof. Adei has written a lot of books which include; called to lead, challenge of parenting: the practice of raising children, leadership and nation-building, 12 keys to financial success, seven keys to abundant living among others.

Prof Adei has been a guest speaker at Step Up Business Forum on two separate occasions to speak on Leadership and Balancing family and work-life respectively.
